Southeast Idaho Fishing Report
In-Depth Fishing Report for The Snake River, Henry's Fork, South Fork of the Snake, Portneuf River as well as surrounding lakes and still waters of Southeast Idaho
Date 5/7/2026
Snake Below American Falls Reservoir:
Currently sitting at 9422 CFS and the reservoir is at 75% full. Walk and wade access at this flow is limited to the banks. Working the rocks close tot the dam can be very productive but having a boat opens up everything. Bobber setups with balanced leeches, minnow patterns, and larger caddis are finding a mix of trout and bass. Streamer fishing bass is slowly picking up and low and slow is still the name of the game. Water clarity is a touch off with high winds but fishing well.
South Fork Snake River :
Flows out of the dam are sitting around 12078 CFS. With increase of flow we are seeing lots of good nymph fishing. Larger beaded mayfly nymphs and stones have been good. Banging banks with streamers in gold, olive over white, and pure white has also been good.
Henrys Fork:
CFS out of Island park reservoir 291. Caddis and mayfly hatches have been consistent. Should be seeing the stone nymphs crawling and getting close to the edges. Rubber legs/ favorite stone nymphs should be apart of your shallow nymph rigs. Salmon flies could happen any day with warmer temps.
Portneuf:
River is in great shape above lava hot springs. Seeing some PMDS and caddis just about everyday. Some fish already looking up and eating some larger foam dries as well. Hopper dropper rig now until we get cold again is the best way to approach with vegetation growing up quick.
Bear River below Oneida:
The river has stayed very consistent this spring. Great streamer action with smaller olive and brown/yellow bugs have been picking up trout and bass. Seeing lots of PMDs and caddis as well.
Still waters & Lakes: A lot of lakes are pretty much ice free and starting to fish! Time to get the boats out.
