Southeast Idaho Fishing Report

In-Depth Fishing Report for The Snake River, Henry's Fork, South Fork of the Snake, Portneuf River as well as surrounding lakes and still waters of Southeast Idaho

Date 8/20/2025

Snake Below American Falls Reservoir:

Currently sitting at 10100CFS and the reservoir is at 15% full. The river is pretty off color and the temps are warm. Fishing has slowed on the upper end but the bass bite is still solid down around massacre rocks. Fishing bobber rigs with balanced leeches or stripping flashy streamer has been the ticket.

South Fork Snake River :

Flows out of the dam are sitting around 11400 CFS. The river is in great shape but has entered the terrestrial time. Lots of hopper dropper rigs along with ants, beetles, and bobber rigs. The mutant stones are starting pop so early and late tan or gold chubbys or your favorite golden stone twitched on the edges can be very productive.

Henrys Fork:

Water is low and warm and the fishing has been tough. If your up in that neck of the woods consider fishing the warm river or smaller creeks. Hoppers, ants, and nymphing the deeper pools should be the ticket.

Portneuf:

Water temps mid day are not great but the early mornings and late evenings have been good. hopper dropper rigs are the name of the game. Small scuds, caddis larva, and frenchies have solid.

Bear River below Oneida:

Flows are still up over 1000 cfs. Water clarity is off but the streamer bite has been good for rainbows and bass. Lots of crayfish and leeches in the system. Close to the dam bobber rigs with balanced leeches fished in the seams can be very productive.

Still waters & Lakes: Most of our stillwaters are starting to get lower and warmer but the sun up till 11 bite has still been producing. Dragging leeches and damsels low and slow.
